Step 1: Check the Wall Switch or Remote:
- Check electric breaker to fireplace.
- Ensure the wall switch or remote control is turned ON.
- If using a remote, check the batteries and replace if necessary.
Step 2: Verify the Pilot Light
- Look through the glass panel to see if the pilot light is lit.
- If not, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to relight the pilot.
Step 3: Inspect the Gas Supply
- Make sure the gas valve is in the ON position.
- If you smell gas, do not proceed—leave the area and contact your gas provider immediately.
Step 4: Reset the Fireplace
- Turn the unit OFF and wait 5 minutes.
- Then turn it back ON to reset the system.
Step 5: Check the Batteries in the Receiver Box
- Locate the receiver box (usually under or near the fireplace).
- Replace the AA batteries inside the box if the unit is unresponsive.
Step 6: Inspect the Thermostat
- If your fireplace is connected to a thermostat, ensure it’s set above room temperature.
- Replace thermostat batteries if needed.
Step 7: Clean the Fireplace
- Dust and debris can block sensors or burners.
- Gently vacuum or brush around the pilot and burner area (when the unit is off and cool).
Step 8: Call for Service
- If the fireplace still doesn’t operate, contact a certified technician or your local dealer for service.
Trouble-Shooting for Fireplaces
First steps to Troubleshooting should be to find the brand/make and model and then refer to the owner’s manual which typically has a Troubleshooting and Tips section. Troubleshooting without knowing what you’re doing may lead to further damage or a dangerous situation. A PLUS FGMI does not offer emergency services, so if there is an emergency, call 911 and shut off any power (electric breaker) and/or gas supply (inside safety shut-off key valve or outside source) if there is one to the fireplace, grill or other gas appliance. A PLUS FGMI does not work on electrical or gas supply lines, only the components and brands we sell.”
Owner’s manuals and Use & Care Guidelines can be found on the manufacturer’s brand website under Customer Care/Support.
